Being completely ignorant of what it takes to get a business off the ground in the downtown, I’ve often wondered why no one has opened a brewery. Is there some stupid Richmond County laws that would make operation for a brewery difficult in the DT area? Seems the ones in surrounding towns do quite well – Athens, Savannah, even Aiken has a great one in the brew pub.

the KING GEORGE had one for awhile....

but, you know what?

most people went there...and wanted.....yup.....

BUD LIGHT.

so, i guess it depends on the demand....

i think there are some alcohol brewing licenses that would be involved....

but, yeah i'd like to drink a local batch of BROWN ALE.

in fact...make it a JAMES BROWN ALE.

brewed in downtown augusta.

do it, miles!

coco hit the nail on the head. "can i get a bud light" is all i ever hear. some people are starting to open up about beer though. just not enough for someone to be able to make money. aiken has the brew pub, i've heard nothing but good things about their beer, and its all made there.

I highly recommend watching "beer wars." If you get netflix you can view it online. I will never understand how people choose Bud Light over craft brews. I have always wanted to open up a brewhouse downtown...maybe when the state of Georgia lays off all teachers I will get on it!

i dont drink, 1 beer gets me wasted, but a local brewery is always cool. we built one in newark delaware and it was way cool. all the ones i have been in seem to have a really good atmosphere, one thats alot different than a normal bar. i cant pinpoint what it is but its really cool. the brew pub in aiken, the few times ihave been there, is really cool. it wouldbe neat to have onein augusta, just like it would be neat to have a college radio station(that one has been beat to death here but its true).

Personally, I love Bud Light. I have had beer literally around the world, and all over the US, and BL just tastes good. I drink beer to get a buzz, though. If I want complex and engaging flavors, I'll eat a meal.

I’ll have to respectfully disagree with El Guapo on the budlight…PBR is way better. :O)
Sad I never got to try the King George’s, didn’t even know. :O(
